From the Gospel according to John 16:12-15
Jesus said to his disciples: “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.”
The Gospel of the Lord
To Receive and to Transmit
Among the Persons of the Holy Trinity, the truth is passed on by being given from one to another: the Father gives it to the Son, and the Son to the Holy Spirit, who then brings it to our understanding.
And we are called to receive it from others to whom the Holy Spirit has already transmitted it. My husband is a minister of God’s grace, and I should be attentive to what the Spirit is saying to him and what God wants to tell me through him.
Applied to Married Life:
Carmel: I would ask that, before giving your opinion, you discern each matter before the Lord, so that He may speak to us through you.
David: You’re right. I shouldn’t come up with decisions or rules on my own. We’re here to discover the truth that comes from the Holy Spirit, not to build our own version of it. Thank you for the advice. I believe it comes from the Holy Spirit, and I will take it as such.
Carmel: If you do it that way, I promise to take your proposals seriously, because I will consider them worthy of deep discernment.
Mother,
The Holy Spirit desires to transmit all truth to us. May we be open to listening to Him and to passing on the truth we receive from Him. May He be praised forever.
