Real and True. Reflection for marriages. John 6:51-58

For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

From the Gospel according to John
Jn 6:51-58

Jesus said to the crowds:
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”

The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.  For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

The Gospel of the Lord

Real and True

The fact that Christ becomes present in the consecrated bread and wine is real. However, whether that presence constitutes a true union with Him depends on the faith of the person receiving His Body.

The Eucharist is by far the most effective Sacrament for union with Christ, but it depends on the faith with which we receive it. Sometimes, other non-sacramental practices are mistakenly embraced more strongly. Let’s place all our faith in the Eucharist and see what happens…

Applied to Married Life:

Anna: The Eucharist has transformed our lives, but it still needs to transform us even more until we become saints.

Albert: And what can we do if we’re already going to daily Eucharist?

Anna: Live it with more faith. Let’s dive into the Heart of Christ at the moment of Communion.

Albert: That sounds great. I ask the Lord for more faith to receive Him in the full truth of communion with Him. There’s nothing that unites more than He Himself.

Anna: Amen to that.

Mother,

We ask you for more faith to live the Eucharist in all its truth. Praise be to the Lord who gives Himself to us.
